Introduction
The Qur'an (hereafter written as "Quran") is the central religious text of Islam and serves as the primary source of faith, ethics, law, and spiritual guidance for Muslims. As one of the most influential texts in human history, it has profoundly shaped religious thought, intellectual traditions, literature, education, law, philosophy, art, and civilization across diverse cultures for more than fourteen centuries.
Today, Islam is the world's second-largest religion, with approximately 2 billion followers, representing about one-quarter of the global population, making the Quran one of the most widely read, studied, and interpreted texts worldwide. Beyond its religious significance, the Quran has attracted sustained scholarly attention from researchers in a wide range of academic disciplines, including Quranic studies, Islamic studies, religious studies, history, linguistics, literary studies, philosophy, theology, law, education, digital humanities, and the social sciences. Contemporary scholarship increasingly applies diverse analytical methodologies-including historical, philological, hermeneutical, linguistic, comparative, computational, and interdisciplinary approaches-to explore the Quran's language, structure, concepts, interpretive traditions, historical context, and intellectual influence.
As Quranic studies continue to expand within the global academic community, there is a growing need for rigorous, evidence-based, and methodologically sound research that contributes to a deeper understanding of the Quran from multiple scholarly perspectives. Such research not only advances the field of Quranic studies but also promotes interdisciplinary dialogue on topics related to language, culture, ethics, history, civilization, and contemporary societal challenges.
Aims and Scope
The Journal of Quranic Knowledge (J Quran Knowl) is an open access, double-blind, peer-reviewed quarterly journal, owned, managed, and published by Allameh Tabataba'i University since 2010. The Journal of Quranic Knowledge is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal dedicated to advancing research on the Quran through interdisciplinary, analytical, and methodologically rigorous approaches. The journal aims to provide an academic platform for the study of Quranic text, interpretation, language, concepts, history, and contemporary relevance, while fostering dialogue among scholars of Quranic studies, Islamic studies, humanities, and social sciences.
The journal welcomes original research articles, review papers, critical studies, and methodological contributions that enhance understanding of the Quran as a foundational source of Islamic thought, culture, ethics, and civilization. It encourages both classical and contemporary approaches to Quranic scholarship and promotes research that contributes to the advancement of knowledge in Quranic studies at national and international levels.
Aims
The Journal of Quranic Knowledge seeks to:
1. Publish original, high-quality research articles, critical studies, and methodological contributions that advance the theoretical, empirical, linguistic, and hermeneutical understanding of the Quran, its interpretation (Tafsir), language, key concepts, historical reception, and contemporary significance.
2. Promote innovative and interdisciplinary approaches to Quranic studies by integrating classical Islamic scholarship with contemporary analytical methods, including digital humanities, computational linguistics, discourse analysis, artificial intelligence, and both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, while maintaining a strong foundation in the classical exegetical and literary traditions.
3. Foster scholarly dialogue and international collaboration among researchers in Quranic studies, Islamic studies, the humanities, and the social sciences, encouraging research that addresses contemporary global challenges, such as social justice, environmental ethics, interfaith relations, technology, and modernity, and highlights the continuing relevance of the Quran to academic inquiry and society.
